Reflecting on reading habits
Have a look at the images and think about your own reading habits. Have they changed?
Yes, they have. I used to read books, articles
and manuals on language teaching more often a couple of years ago because I was
studying that. Nowadays I read for pleasure, I read articles, social media
posts, blogs and some literature books on holidays mostly. I’m reading the same
amount of time but my motivation is not as academic as it used to.
What kind of books or texts are the
people reading? Did they chose the books themselves or did someone else choose
for them?
They are
reading novels, plays, kids’ stories, poems, articles and manuals. It seems
that they all chose the texts themselves but the kids at school. Maybe the did
choose the books themselves but the covers are similar so it makes me guess
they’re graded reading books.
Describe how they might be feeling at the
moment and give reasons.
I believe
they are all entertained and interested in their reading. The don’t seem bored.
Focus on one or two of the photos and
say how they relate to your own experience as a reader in L1 (Spanish) and L2
(English or another foreign language). Think about the following things:
- What texts do you enjoy reading in
each language that you speak?
In both
languages, I really enjoy novels, articles, blogs and poems.
- Do you choose the same kind of texts
or do you read very different things depending on the language? What factors
determine your choice?
I tend to
read the same types of texts as I learnt to read in my L1 at 5 and my L2 at 7.
- In what format do you read (paper,
e-reader, online etc.)?
I usually
ready online and on paper.
- When do you read?
I read around
2h a day after my afternoon coffee.
