Space Oddity Edpuzzle project by The Teacher is In! ... I loved it!

Hi guys! I really liked S pace Oddity Edpuzzle project by The Teacher is In!! , it's a pretty original way to practise listenig skills in a fun and creative way. Edpuzzle is quite easy to use and the idea of using it with the lyrics of a song is rather cool. So I've decided to teach my students in 4ºESO to edit a song and make a listening comporehension in a fill-in the gap style. They could choose any song they liked but it had to be in English.  This is the project one of my students made based on this idea. The song was Pocahonta's Colours of the Wind... I chose this one because it was done in a very coherent way, it was challenging but adequate according to their level, and it included grammar we had seen, the conditionals. Click on the picture above to watch their project..... enjoy!!

Genially, an amazing tool!

Hi! Here’s one of my students’ presentations using Genially , it's about Mae Jemison  . Here's how we made the presentations: Stage 1: Students are put in groups of 3, I let them choose the groups this time, I sometimes group them myself according to different learning levels. Stage 2: Students are explained about the project: they need to do a presentation using Genially. They will have 5 days in the ICT room to finish it. They will have to look up for information, cite their sources and present the project orally in the class. Every student will read some parts of the Genially text, and there is a minimum of 3 slides per presentation plus sources and cover. They are given a handout with the evaluation criteria they will be evaluated on: writing and speaking skills. Stage 3: Students go to the ICT room for 5 days. I monitor their work by registering their process and what they do everyday Stage 4: Students present their Genially. I believe this tool has been very ...

Listening comprehension with Edpuzzle + my reflection

Here's the link to my Listening activity video on Edpuzzle :  I chose this video for my students at 4º ESO because we are doing a project on Women and Girls in Science to celebrate and commemorate the 11th of February. The video deals with the topic of women in space and contains easy to understand language, but it is challenging due to the speed of the audio and the amount of informationit gives. The learning objectives are to acquire listening skills present in the evaluation criteria for 4ºESO, raise awareness on equality and the role of women in multiple fields of knowledge and also improve students ICT skills. S tudents in class are explained that they will have to watch a video at home and answer some questions related to it using Edpuzzle (flipped classroom).  Pre-task:  Top-down activity in which students are introduced to the topic of women in science. They are told that today we will deal with the topic of space. They will brainstorm vocabulary related to ...

REFLECTION ON TIMETOAST ACTIVITY – WOMEN IN SCIENCE – 11TH OF FEBRUARY

Imagen
Here are two timelines my students have made on Women in Science to celebrate next February the 11th: Ada Lovelace  Mae Jemison  The learning objectives of the activity The objectives of the activity were to raise awareness on gender equality and the presence of women and girls in science, practice and improve their reading skills, be able to work in groups where all members have a role and are made accountable for them, and they were evaluated on the evaluation criteria for reading in 1ºESO. The advantages of using TimeToast for this activity Students enjoyed using technology and English as they usually do, but using this app specifically helped them organise themselves in a linear way. The steps you followed to set up the activity 1)      Students are explained that they need to outline the texts they are given, they can use a dictionary and ask for help. 2)      Students have 3 days to outline the texts and write down t...

Reflecting on reading habits

Imagen
Have a look at the images and think about your own reading habits. Have they changed?   Yes, they have. I used to read books, articles and manuals on language teaching more often a couple of years ago because I was studying that. Nowadays I read for pleasure, I read articles, social media posts, blogs and some literature books on holidays mostly. I’m reading the same amount of time but my motivation is not as academic as it used to. What kind of books or texts are the people reading? Did they chose the books themselves or did someone else choose for them? They are reading novels, plays, kids’ stories, poems, articles and manuals. It seems that they all chose the texts themselves but the kids at school. Maybe the did choose the books themselves but the covers are similar so it makes me guess they’re graded reading books.   Describe how they might be feeling at the moment and give reasons. I believe they are all entertained and interested in their reading. The d...

Creating comics with Storyjumper - A reflection

Imagen
How did you organise the groups? I organised the groups based on the different learning levels of the students, mixing lowe-intermediate with higher-level students. I made groups of three. What was the sequence of tasks that you followed to get to the final product? -        The students brainstorm on the elements to take into account when making a story and a script for it and make their own mind map about it. They usually include topic, genre, characters and their traits, time and place and title of the story. - They students are also given a peer assessment and self-assessment sheet they have to fill in during their writing process.  -        The students are shown the instructions on the syntactic content, expressions and lexical elements they had to use. Thy are explained that the topic is free (they are not shown an example). They are shown the rubric on the ...
